Instructions
The POP-Q ruler is used by a trained healthcare professional during a vaginal examination.
In brief:
- The patient is positioned appropriately (usually lithotomy or semi-recumbent).
- The clinician identifies specific anatomical landmarks within the vagina.
- Measurements are taken in centimetres relative to the hymenal ring.
- Points such as Aa, Ba, C, D, Ap and Bp are measured.
- Total vaginal length (TVL), genital hiatus (GH) and perineal body (PB) may also be recorded.
- The measurements are documented to determine prolapse stage (Stage 0–IV).
The ruler ensures consistent, reproducible measurements for clinical records and treatment planning.
